providing a full range of in-home health services, respite care, companion services, sick child care, drug testing and immunization programs.

1988

Hospice Program certified by Medicare. It is the first Certified Hospice Program in the state. Also this year the Maternal Child Health and Pediatric Programs were developed.

1991

Psychiatric, Mental Health and Intravenous Therapy services were added. These were the first such services to be provided by a home care agency in Utah.

1992

Flu vaccinations provided throughout the state began in conjunction with several stores and private businesses

1994

Journey Home program established serving HIV AIDS clients and their families. Kaleidoscope ® Kids program established to serve children and families with life threatening illnesses.

1995

An IV pharmacy was added for CNS clients.

1997

Over 3 million visits made.

1998

Child Care program established for CNS employees & the community.

1999

Introduced the use of Telehome Health care.

2000

Price office opened to service Carbon and Emery Counties

2001

Moab and St. George office opened.

2002

Tooele office opened.

2004

Lifeline, a personal emergency response system was introduced for patient and client use.

2005

Over four million visits made.

2006

Salt Lake East Office established.

2007

Ogden Branch Office opened.  Layton & Provo also certified as Hospice Branches.

2008

CNS receives state and national awards for quality including being top 6% of agencies national for quality care.  Provides $640,000 in Charity Care and volunteer services.

  

About Community Nursing Services …

 

Community Nursing Services (CNS) was established in 1929, to provide nursing care for sick people in their homes as an alternative to hospitalization. CNS began as an voluntary, non-profit agency, when the existing Visiting Nursing Association of Salt Lake and the Private Duty Registry were combined. In 1930, Salt Lake Community Nursing Services became a participating agency of the Community Chest, later to be known as United Way.

 

Some historical landmarks for Community Nursing Services:

 

1928

The Salt Lake City Visiting Nurse Service (Later to become Community Nursing Services) was founded.

1930

CNS became a participating agency with Community Chest, later to be known as United Way.

1966

Certified as a home health agency able to provide services under Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement plans.

1969

Full accreditation by the National League for Nursing / American Public Health Association Accreditation Program.

1982

Merged with Hospice of Salt Lake.

1987

CNS Home Health Plus (HHP) was established. A private duty agency
