Meetings:  Sizzler, 371 East 400 South, SLC 11:45 – 1:00 pm, Meeting Room (Northwest corner of Restaurant.) Round Table Meetings, Same Time & Location except in the Atrium.

 

** Board meeting is the 1st Tuesday of every month at the Pagoda, 5th East and 1st North in Salt Lake City.   5:30 pm with dinner afterwards.

1882 - Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act over President Chester A. Arthur's veto.

 

 

1889 - The Universal Exposition opened in Paris, marking the completion and dedication of the Eiffel Tower.

 

1937 - The German airship Hindenburg blew up and burst into flames at Lakehurst, N.J.

 

1941 - Dictator Joseph Stalin became the premier of Russia.

 

1954 - British athlete Roger Bannister became the first person to run a mile in under four minutes (3:59:4).

 

1994 - The Chunnel between England and France officially opened.

     Francisco earthquake and ensuing three-day

• Reginald Fessenden invents wireless

    telephony, a means for radio waves to carry

    signals a significant distance.

 

•  British geologist and seismologist Richard

     Dixon Oldham notes that earthquake waves

     travel more slowly when they pass through

     the center of the Earth, and suggests that our

     planet has a dense core

 

•  President Roosevelt sails to the Panama Canal

     Zone. It is the first time a U.S. president has

     travelled outside the country while in office.
